Online/Social Media Experience
Website Administrator
From 2005 – 2007 I was a Site Administrator here: Cre8asite Forums. Cre8asite is owned and operated by Kim Krause Berg one of the leading online experts on Web Site Usability, Search Marketing, and Internet Communication.
As a member joining in 2004, I learnt most of my online Search Engine Optimisation skills at the forum. As an Admin I offered advice on web design and online marketing, (as well as “house keeping” the forum from spammers). The primary function was to encourage new members to return to repost, and to post items of interest which would elicit response from our members. (To see an example of “managing a forum thread”, please go to this recent thread I started and managed in a diabetics forum: Diabetes UK Forum )
Twitter
Recently I have been developing “automated” Twitter accounts which post, retweet, follow, unfollow and send a welcome message automatically. The system uses FREE online resources such as Google Alerts, Twitter Feed, Twitter Search – and Yahoo Pipes to create, (what look like), genuine retweets from Twitter users back to a Twitter account. By using keyword searches the Twitter accounts appear to be operating as if a “real person” is running them. For example:
- Twitter Bloke – Tweets things about Twitter from the internet, (via Google Alert searches), and retweets from Twitter about “Twitter News”.
- Half Baked SEO – is an automated Twitter account I set up on the keywords of “SEO” or “Search Engine Optimisation”. I had registered the domain “halfbakedseo.com” as my intention is to start an online SEO business. Off the back of this Twitter account alone, i.e. without any other business model/website etc, I have had an offer to write an SEO article for someone’s blog and have made new business contacts.
Facebook
I have an active Facebook account: Paul Flanagan On Facebook I’ve also been using Facebook to promote an online eBay store Old Photos On Facebook . The store being Old Photos At Cre8tivestores – which also has it’s own very popular automated Twitter account, (which I take an active part in), over at Old Photos On Twitter.
Multi Social Media Campaigns
As part of the “Ultimate Cliffroll Group” on Facebook, to get a song, (a Cliff Richard Christmas song), to the no.1 slot at Easter of 2009 – I was quite active with throwing out ideas/hints and tips on how to promote the group: The Ultimate Cliffroll
In order to investigate the marketing capabilities of both Twitter and Facebook, in 2010, (from a concept formed between myself and a friend in Belgium), we created a “sleeps to go” to Christmas 2010 Twitter account: Sleeps To Go , (an “automated” account with myself monitoring and talking to “real people” when real people commented etc), and a Facebook page: Sleeps To Go On Facebook .
For 2012 a further advance on this Twitter account was to incorporate a 3rd party script which generates a daily countdown to Christmas 2012.
Blogging
I’ve had a personal blog since 2002. It now sits here: Blogging With Dr P… And I use my YouTube account, (Paul Flanagan On YouTube ), to post videos to which I tend to link back/embed in my blog posts and occasionally to my Facebook account.
Using WordPress as a blogging platform and the useful “plugins” available for WordPress I can upload a blog post – which feeds my Twitter account – which feeds my Facebook profile. And, using mobile apps on my phone, I can blog directly from my phone on train journeys etc – upload to my blog and update Twitter & Facebook at the same time.
Sponsored Blog Posts – Online Creative Content
As a member of the Ebuzzing online blogging community I have produced many sponsored blog posts for high profile UK & international companies’ advertising campaigns. Here is a selection:
“Respect On The Road” – The AXA Insurance campaign for road safety running during August 2010: AXA Insurance – Respect On The Road
“Pizza Hut – Kids Eat Free At Lunchtime” – a Pizza Hut campaign running from Sept 2010 to 9th Jan 2011: Pizza Hut – Kids Eat Free
“Blog For Cash” – a campaign sponsored by ebuzzing themselves to advertise their blogging community: Blogging For Cash
“KLM – Secret Cities – Free Flights” – KLM – Secret Cities a KLM contest promoting people to follow KLM first on Twitter before entering their online competition (April 2011).
Google Adsense and Affiliate Advertising
I have been learning about Search Engine Optimisation, (SEO), in relation to the Google Adsense advertising programme. Using SEO and Google Ads I am earning a small amount of revenue from several websites.
Summary
I am a very active blogger. I am very “Internet savvy” with SEO, (search engine optimisation), and it’s uses in helping to get websites “seen” by search engines such as Google.
I can write creative and concise web copy to order.
I have a good knowledge of using “social media” resources such as Twitter and Facebook, and the understanding and ability to create and maintain a “social media profile” for individual or business use.
I am also currently helping to develop a local business’ website to achieve higher rankings/create more business at Grays Business Centre – through basic web design and Search Engine Optimisation techniques.
